Currently the market leader for Maritime Pictures, Christie’s holds two dedicated Maritime sales a year in London (in May and November). Maritime Pictures are also offered in New York in our Old Master & Early British Paintings sales.

Since the conception of these sales, twenty-two years ago, Christie’s has set numerous world auction records including $508,800 (£275,027) for Montague Dawson's The Wings of Dawn (July 2006, New York); £172,000 for John Wilson Carmichael's A sleek-hulled British Opium Schooner amongst other shipping, including fine-lined Chinese deep water junks and a large British man-o'-war under sail, off what is presumed to be Hong Kong (November 1997, London); and £663,750 for an extremely fine Admiralty Board model of an English Fifth Rate ship-of-the line (November 2003, London). All of these prices still stand as world records today.

Our extensive international client base has allowed us to continue achieving strong prices in London for works of exceptional quality and with impeccable provenance. The sales include pictures from the 1600 through to the present day and exceptional ship models.

We invite you to contact one of the specialists listed below if you are interested in buying or selling your works of Maritime art.
