Charles Curtis, MW

Charles Curtis was appointed Vice President, Head of Wine Sales, Americas in July 2008 and Head of Wines Sales, Asia in 2011. Charles acts as primary business-getter, focusing on high-value property and developing client relationships. Prior to his position at Christie’s, Charles worked in a variety of capacities, including wholesale, general sales manager, supplier representative, journalist, author, consultant and wine judge and is a frequent speaker at wine and food festivals throughout the United States, in addition to appearances as a guest lecturer at numerous colleges. He has contributed to publications such as Harper’s (UK), the International Wine Review, Santé magazine (US), Aspen magazine, and Scottsdale magazine. Charles has garnered a number of honors, including the prestigious “Bourse André Crispin” in 2002, presented by the Commanderie de Bordeaux aux Etats-Unis. He continues his work with the Institute of Masters of Wine, speaking at their annual Education Seminar, and remains the organizer of the Institute’s Annual Champagne Tasting, held in New York and in San Francisco. Mr. Curtis earned his Diploma from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust of London, and in October 2004 became the 22nd Master of Wine in the United States.

Simon Tam

Simon Tam joined Christie’s in March 2011 as Head of Wine, China. Based in Hong Kong, Simon is responsible for developing Christie's wine sales in Asia, with particular focus on client relationships in Greater China. Reporting to Charles Curtis MW, Head of Wine for Asia, Simon works closely with the company's established wine teams in Amsterdam, Geneva, London, Paris and New York. In 1999, Christie's was the first international auction house to organise a wine auction in Hong Kong and today has the largest and most experienced team in the world. A pioneer educator, communicator and wine consultant in Greater China, Simon has over 20 years of experience developing and nurturing the Chinese Wine Market. A highly specialised award-winning consultant to the wine industry, Simon was voted “The Best Wine Consultant” by UK’s Wine Business International magazine. He is the founder of the Independent Wine Centre in Hong Kong and Shanghai (www.iwinecentre.com), Founding Chairman of the Greater China Wine Critics Association and co-founding director of Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition. In addition, Simon serves on several Hong Kong SAR government advisory committees related to the wine industry and is a member of numerous professional groups including the Chaine des Rotisseurs, Chevalier de Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne. As an active columnist and speaker, he regularly writes for international media and has spoken at major wine conferences worldwide such as VINEXPO and the London International Wine Fair. He also created an iPhone/iPad app “Flavour Colours” - the world's first Chinese food and wine pairing app. Simon graduated from Regency and Roseworthy Colleges in Australia in Hospitality Management and Wine Marketing. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

David Elswood

David Elswood joined Christie's Wine Department in 1985, originally working on South Kensington sales before becoming an Associate Director and auctioneer in 1989. Following a move to King Street headquarters in 1990 he was appointed Deputy Head of Department in 1994 and received his directorship in 1998. In 2000 he left to explore the new challenges of internet wine auctions and rejoined the Christie's team in early 2002 as Head of European Sales. Since 2003 he has held the position of International Head of Wine Sales and Principal Auctioneer, presiding over Christie's wine sales in Europe and the United States. Mr Elswood's stated main aims are to ensure that Christie's continue to dominate the world of wine auctions and to maintain their global position as the number one house for fine and rare wines.

Chris Munro

Chris Munro returned to Christie’s in 2004 to lead the team in the London Wine Department. He is responsible for strengthening Christie’s service with wine buyers across Europe and raising the quality of wine sales at Christie’s. Under his watch, the department hosted highly successful sales of wine direct from the top Bodegas of Rioja, the Cellars of Gaston Huet and the producers of both Sauternes and Champagne. Chris started his career at Christie’s Wine Department in New York in 1997, and then transferred to the Wine Department in London. In 1999, he had the opportunity to join an Internet wine auction house as European Business Manager, which allowed him to increase his knowledge of both wine on the Internet and the complicated workings of the European trade. Chris’s passion is for the wines of France, but he has also developed a strong affinity with the fine wines of Rioja and the rare sweet wines of Tokay.

Carolyn Holmes

A background in hotel management and an impressive track record as beverage manager of various prestigious restaurants in London provided Ms. Holmes with over 17 years of wine trade experience. She joined Christie’s London in 1990 and helped to develop and grow Christie’s presence in the international wine market. In 2000, she temporarily relocated to Los Angeles to lead Christie’s team of wine specialists and to develop various theme sales, including the unique and very popular "California Only" sale. Now back in London, she has resumed her previous role as senior specialist and auctioneer for South Kensington wine sales, working closely with the London specialist team to develop Christie’s varied sales program.

Tim Triptree

Tim Triptree joined the London Wine department in 2005 after graduating with a Distinction in the Wine Business Management MBA at the Business School of the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester and working in the trade for Majestic Wine. He has studied for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma, gaining a Distinction in 2008 and also winning the Sherry Institute Scholarship and the Constellation Scholarship which involved complimentary visits to the wine producing regions of Jerez and New Zealand respectively. He is currently studying for the Master of Wine and was delighted to win the Trinity Champagne Scholarship out of all the first year MW students in 2008. Tim has a particular interest in wines from France, especially Burgundy and Bordeaux and Spain. He speaks Spanish having lived in the wine producing area of Mendoza in Argentina.

Anthony Hanson

Anthony Hanson's distinguished career in the wine industry has spanned several countries and several decades. With over 30 years of experience under his belt, this wine connoisseur and wine scholar is sought after as an international wine judge and most recently served as Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine in London. Among numerous appearances on international stages, Mr. Hanson shared the spotlight in March 1999 with Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Robert M. Parker, Jr., one of today's best known wine writers, participating in The Bordeaux Debate at Bordeaux University. In 1982, the first edition of Burgundy, Mr. Hanson's landmark publication, was released. The book is believed to have prompted the many changes he describes in the award-winning second edition of his book published in 1995. Mr. Hanson has been the Burgundy correspondent for Microsoft's On-Line Wine Guide, and plans on sharing his wealth of knowledge with buyers and sellers of wine in a series of seminars and lectures in conjunction with Christie's renowned wine courses. Anthony Hanson has been a Master of Wine since 1976.
